How To Remove the Doors on a Jeep

Learning how to take the doors off a Jeep is doable at home, though it takes some time and effort. We recommend giving yourself plenty of space to work since the doors can take some careful maneuvering. Once you’ve folded down the side mirrors and rolled down the windows, here are the steps you’ll need to follow:

  • Remove the footwell under your dashboard or by the B-pillar to disconnect the power cables. Remove the clip, and they should pop right off.
  • Remove the door straps by gently lifting them off the hooks.
  • Remove the bolt from the door hinges.
  • Slide the door off and away gently.
  • Repeat these steps with the remaining doors.
  • Disable the door alarm. Detaching the negative lead from the battery and putting it aside. Remove the fuse box cover and locate the Door Jam Defeat fuse. Remove it with fuse clips or needle-nose pliers, then reconnect the negative lead to the battery.
  • Store the doors in a safe and dry place, and lubricate the door hinges.

How to Take a Top Off a Jeep

What if you want to learn how to take a top off a Jeep? We don’t blame you since this will give you an even better view of the sky and your surroundings in Gresham. However, removing the top from your Jeep is a much more intensive process. We recommend scheduling a service instead to avoid damage. Because the top is such a large and cumbersome component, it’s best to let the experts take care of the heavy lifting instead.

Why Would I Take Apart My Jeep?

Some people love the Jeep as-is, while others love customization. So, why would someone take apart a Jeep in the first place? There are two main reasons. First, removing the doors and top gives you an even better view. Not just any vehicle has this option, so many people choose Jeeps specifically to experience the elements in a more immersive way. The second reason is to lighten up the vehicle. When you shed weight from a vehicle, you improve the fuel economy. This allows you to spend more time on the trails and less time at the gas pump in Beaverton!
